New Patient Forms:
What to expect
On your first visit, Dr. Altschul-Latzman will thoroughly review your history and evaluate each of your allergic conditions. This is followed by a detailed physical examination and usually diagnostic testing which allows the doctor to make a correct diagnosis.
Generally, skin testing for allergies is done on the first visit, and occasionally RAST tests (blood test) are ordered depending on the nature of the problem. Skin testing consists of pricking the skin and is not painful (but can itch!).
Respiratory issues are often evaluated with pulmonary function testing. The visit typically lasts from 45-60 minutes.
Antihistamines must be discontinued prior to skin testing!
Please discontinue for 4 days prior to the visit. Decongestants without antihistamines as well as intranasal steroid sprays and inhalers may be taken.
Please see the list of antihistamines to be avoided.
If you have any questions about antihistamines in your medication, please check with your pharmacist or you may call our office for guidance.
